The Blair Atholl Bells Distillery is
situated 26 miles northwest of Perth, at the Town
of Pitlochry, just off the main A9
road.
The Distillery can be visited all year for

Centre. The Distillery is on the south side of
Pitlochry, a scenic town with a good selection
of Shops and Cafe / Diners.
This is a Single Malt Distillery with most
of the Whisky used for blending Bells Whisky,
price around £17 per bottle.

Blair Atholl Distillery History
1798 - the Blair Atholl Distillery was
founded by John Steward and Robert Robertson
under the name Aldour, after the Allt Dour burn
where the water is taken for the Whisky.
The Distillery closed a few years after
opening.
1825 - Arthur Bell began trading from a
small shop in Perth selling Whisky and Tea.
1825 - the Distillery was re-opened by John
Robertson.
The following years saw the Distillery
change ownership to Alexander Conacher & Co.,
John Conacher & Co, and Peter Fraser & Co.
1850s - Arthur Bell began mixing several
Whiskies to create the Bell's blend.
1882 - the Distillery was acquired by P.
McKenzie & Co Distillers Limited.
1932 - the Distillery was closed during the
Great
Depression.
1933 - the end of the American Prohibition led
to an increase in Scotch Whisky sales, leading
to Arthur Bell and Sons buying the Blair Athol
Distillery.
1949 - the Distillery was re-opened by
Arthur Bell and Sons after being re-built.
1973 - the Distillery was expanded from two
stills to four.
1978 - Bells wins an award as the UK's top
selling Whisky.
Bells Whisky is a blend of Whiskies from the
Blair Atholl Distillery, Dufftown Distillery,
Inchgower Distillery, Glenkinchie Distillery,
and Caol Ila Distillery.
