Princes Street in Edinburgh / Scotland. The Main
Attractions are a number of Monuments,
Observatory, and Views over Edinburgh.

The Image top is from Princes Street in
Edinburgh centre looking northeast to Calton
Hill, about a 15 minute walk from here, 338 ft
/ 103 m above sea level.
The second image is of the small Parliament
Monument on the east side of the Hill, built
after Scotland voted for Devolution in 1997.
The Stones are from around Scotland, from Ben
Nevis mountain, Robert Burns cottage at
Mauchline, Robert the Bruce Castle at
Lochmaben, also Paris and Auschwitz
Concentration Camp in Poland.
The third image is of the National Monument
of Scotland, built in 1826 in honour of Scots
killed during the Napoleonic Wars of 1803 to
1815. Emperor Napoleon of France had started a
series of Wars throughout Europe as he extended
the French Empire till his defeat at the Battle
of Waterloo in 1815.
The Nelson Monument is in honour of Admiral
Nelson killed at the Battle of Trafalgar in
1805, a naval Battle between Britain and France
during the Napoleonic Wars, that led to Britain
controlling the seas.
The City Observatory is in the Greek style
building built in 1818 with a 16 cm telescope
for viewing the stars, open to the public some
nights.
The bottom image is of the information
boards giving the history of Edinburgh through
time.
Below Calton Hill to the east is the Old
Calton Burial Grounds with a Watch Tower to
prevent Body Snatchers and a large Monument for
the poet Robert Burns.
