The Dumfries & Galloway Aviation Museum
is 3 miles northeast of Dumfries town
off the A701 road.
Open April - October - Wednesday 11am – 4pm
/ Saturday and Sunday, 10am – 5pm / July and
August Wed-Thurs-Fri, 11am – 4pm / Saturday and

The Museum has a number of fighter jets
built from the 1940s to 1970s, including an
English Electric Lightning. There is also a
Trident
passenger jet from the 1960s, cafe, and Control
Tower Museum giving information on Air Bases in
the area during WWII.

The Lightning was the last British fighter
aircraft to be built solely in Britain, one of
the fastest fighter aircraft of the time with
an incredible rate of climb.
1977 - the Museum opened on this site of the
former RAF Dumfries that was in operation from
1940 to 1960.
The Museum gives information on other
airfields in this area used during WWII such as
Annan, Castle Kennedy, Stranraer, and
Wigtown.
There are sections for uniforms, aircraft
guns, and engines, with displays of practically
every type of engine used in aircraft,
including huge Jumbo Jet engines.
