The Queens View

The Queens View is 89 miles north of Glasgow, 33 miles northwest of Perth, 7 miles west of Pitlochry.

This Attraction is maintained by the Forestry Commission, named after Isabella of Mar, first wife of King Robert the Bruce.

The Queens View can be visited all year with a small car parking charge. For the Visitor Centre and Cafe / Diner opening times check the website as they have been closed at times recently. Postcode: PH16 5NR

The Image top is of the Visitor Centre. The Queens View is about a 200 yard, fairly level walk from the Centre.

The Viewing Area sits high above Loch Tummel with great views west, south, and east. There is a metal plate with engravings naming the Mountains that can be seen from the Viewing Area such as the 3,553ft Schiehallion 14 miles west, and Glencoe Mountains up to 3,770ft 69 miles west.

The Queens View History

1277 - Isabella of Mar was born at Kildrummy Castle in Aberdeenshire, daughter of Donald, Earl of Mar.

1295 - Isabella of Mar and Robert Bruce married.

1296 - the First War of Scottish Independence broke out after King Alexander III died without leaving an Heir.

1296 March - the English invaded Scotland so they could have a Scots Noble under their influence as King of Scots.

Robert Bruce was one of the Scottish Nobles fighting to become King of an Independant Scotland.

Isabella is said to have been hiding in the Loch Tummel area at this time, why the area was named The Queens View.

1296 December - Isabella died aged nineteen, soon after giving birth to her daughter Marjorie Bruce.

1306 - Robert Bruce was crowned as King Robert I of Scotland at Scone Abbey.

1371 - Marjorie's son Robert Stewart, became King of Scotland, the first of many Stewart Kings that evntualy ruled Scotland and England.

1866 - Queen Victoria visits the Queens View on one of her many trips to Scotland.
