The image top is of Southerness Golf Club,
one of the top Golf Clubs in southwest
Scotland.
The largest Attraction in the Village is the
Holiday Park named the Southerness Holiday
Park with a large Swimming Pool, with
Flumes.
By the entrance to the Park are Amusements,
Shops, Fast Food outlets, and the 19th hole Bar,
that has entertainment many nights in
summer.
The Paul Jones Hotel,
Bar and Grill is in the Village centre,
close to the Holiday Park.
The Hotel is named after a famous Naval
Commander in the American Revolutionary War.
John Paul Jones was born three miles north of
Southerness, with his Birthplace Cottage now
serving as a Museum.
There is a Statue outside the Doctors
Surgery, close to the Beach. Cannot find any
information on the Statue.
Southerness Lighthouse is one of the oldest
Lighthouses in Scotland, built in 1749, square
in shape, 56ft high. The Lighthouse was
decommissioned in the 1930s.
This is a good spot to view the end of
Scotland, and look across the Solway Firth to
Cumbria in England.
There is a Coastal Walk
from the Lighthouse, west along Beaches and
along the top of Cliffs to the scenic Villages
of Rockcliffe and Kippford, about
9 miles to Rockcliffe.
There is a good Hike to the 1,867ft Criffel by the
Ardwall Path for great views all around. The
Hill is easily found as it is by far the
highest in the area. The Path starts about 6
miles north of Southerness, 2 miles south of
New
Abbey.
