1400s - Knock Castle was captured by Clan
MacDonald. The following years saw the Castle
change hands a few times between Clan MacLeod
and MacDonald.
1601 - the Battle of Coire na
Creiche was the last battle on the Isle of
Skye between Clan MacLeod and Clan MacDonald
with Clan MacDonald defeating Clan MacLeod.
1689 - the MacDonald's left Knock Castle as
it fell into disrepair.
1760 - Torabhaig Farm House is Completed
close to Knock Castle.
1820 - The Steading at Torabhaig Farm is
built using stone from Knock Castle ruins.
1823 - The Excise Act sanctioned Legal
Whisky Distilling in Scotland.
1830 - Talisker Whiskey Distillery is
opened on the west of Skye.
2002 - Planning permission was granted to
Mossburn - Distillers & Blenders to convert the
Torabhaig Steading into the Torabhaig
Distillery.
2013 - Mossburn's Renovation Project
begins.
2016 - Stills are installed.
2017 - First of the Spirit flows.
2018 - I popped in for a Scone with Tea and
a Tour of the Distillery on a glorious sunny
day.
2020 - the first bottles of Torabhaig Single
Malt Scotch Whisky were Born.
Toravaig House
Hotel is situated under half of a mile
north of the Distillery.
2017 - The Isle of Raasay Distillery
opened as the first Legal Distillery on the
Island, giving the area three interesting
Distilleries to visit. Raasay Island is only a
short Ferry trip from Skye.
