side of Aberlour Town, 35 miles northeast of
Aviemore, 55 miles northwest of
Aberdeen.
The Distillery is open 7 days a week from
9:30 - 17:00 with tours running at 10:00 and

10 to 44 years old, £45 to £7,500 per
bottle.

Aberlour Distillery History
1879 - James Fleming founded Aberlour
Distillery here to make use of Water from
nearby Natural Springs.
1895 - James Fleming died aged 65, with his
Grave in the Cemetery across the road from the
Distillery.
Robert Thorne & Sons took over the
Distillery around that time.
1921 - the Distillery was sold to W. H. Holt
& Sons, a Brewery in the Manchester area.
1945 - S. Campbell & Sons Ltd bought the
Distillery.
1975 - Pernod Ricard acquired Campbell
Distilleries.
2001 - Pernod Ricard joined with Chivas
Brothers, with the two companies then owning 14
single Malt Distilleries and 1 Grain Distillery
in Scotland, and 2 Gin Distilleries in
England.
2002 - a new Visitor Centre was opened at
the Aberlour Distillery.
Aberlour Whisky is Single Malt at 10, 12,
15, 16, 18, and top of the range 30 years
old.
There is also a Cask Strength named A'bunadh,
Gaelic for, The Original.
Most of the Whisky is aged in American ex
Bourbon Casks.
Some Whisky known as Double Cask, is aged in
Bourbon Casks, then finished in Casks
previously used for fortified Wines or
Sherries. This method is popular with the
French market.
