Aviemore is a small remote resort Town in
the Cairngorms National Park, Highlands of
Scotland, 30 miles southeast of Inverness, 85
miles northwest of Perth.
The Aviemore area has a vast range of
outdoor activities and attractions.

Aviemore has turned into a top Resort with
many Attractions such as: Go Karting, Vintage Train Ride,
and Brewery in the
Town.
Around Aviemore there is Mountain Hiking,
Climbing, Skiing, two Water Sports Centres on
different lochs, Biking, Quads, and practically
every type of outdoor activity and attraction
you can think of. Attractions

The Town has a good selection of Hotels,
B&Bs, Self Catering, Holiday Parks, and
Lodge Parks to accommodate the vast numbers of
visitors to the area.
Lairig Ghru is
the top Hill Pass for Walking in Scotland,
running between Aviemore and Braemar, 28
miles through the Cairngorm Mountains.

Regular trains run between Edinburgh, Glasgow
and Inverness, stopping here.
The Strathspey Railway
Steam Train runs from Aviemore certain days
all year to Boat of Garten 6 miles north,
and Broomhill 10 miles north.

Macdonald Hotel across the road from the Rail
Station, and below that, the Cairngorm Hotel,
also across the road from the Station.
Aviemore Main Street / Grampian Road, runs
right through the centre of Town with a good
selection of shops, many for outdoor

The image right is of Aviemore Beach at Loch
Morlich, 6 miles southeast of Aviemore. Regular
buses run between Aviemore and Cairn Gorm
Mountain, passing Loch Morlich. The loch has a
number of attractions such as a Water Sports Centre, Reindeer Centre,
Glenmore Visitor
Centre, and large Camping park.
The Reindeer Centre has a number of Reindeer
at the centre, and many more up in the hills.
You can visit the centre, and at times, take
Tours up into the hills to view or feed the
main herd.
The main attraction at Aviemore is the
4,085ft Cairngorm Mountain, 11 miles
southeast. The mountain has a train that runs
up to a visitor centre at 3,500ft. Regular
buses run between Aviemore and the Mountain.
This train stopped operating in 2018 for
repairs, it re-open in Jan 2023 but was closed
again in August 2023 for further repairs. These
repairs may now be completed in 2025?
The Cairngorm Top Station has a Museum,
Restaurant, Shop, and great views in clear
days. The Mountain is fairly busy during Summer
with tourists using the Train up to the Top
Station. In Winter, during the ski season, the
Mountain can be extremely busy, with the
carriages jam packed taking Skiers and
Snowboarders up to the top slopes.
If you want to hike the final 500ft from the
top station to Cairn Gorm summit in summer, you
have to book a guide through the Mountain
website. This Mountain can be clear one minute,
and covered in cloud the next, also, they are
trying to keep erosion on that part of the
Mountain to a minimum.
You can Hike from the top Station to the
Summit during the Ski season in Winter
following poles.
This is a vast mountain range with 5
Mountains over 4,000ft, including Ben Macdui,
second highest Mountain in Scotland at 4,294ft.
Ben Macdui is east of Cairn Gorm, with a good
trail out from Cairn Gorm.
With the Cairngorms being so vast, and often
in cloud, there are a number of local Companies
offering Navigation and Survival courses. If
you want to start exploring these Mountains,
courses are a must for beginners. See the
Attractions link at the top for a list of
companies offering courses.
The car park at Cairngorm is about 2,000ft
above sea level, so exploring these 4,000ft
mountains is fairly easy, as long as you know
how to navigate, what gear to take, and how to
use it.
