Windsurfing, Stand Up Paddleboarding, Kayaking,
Canoeing, and Mountain Biking.
The Boathouse has Changing Rooms with a Cafe
upstairs for Great Food and Views.
There is a Path all the way out from
Aviemore, mainly through woodland, popular for
Walking and Biking.
Glenmore
Campsite for Camping and Touring is a few
hundred yards east of Loch Morlich
Watersports.
There are also Holiday Parks by Aviemore,
with Caravans and Lodges for Holidays.
Loch Morlich is about 300m / 1,000ft above
sea level.

Loch Morlich History
1891 - Sir Hugh Munroe completed a list of
Scottish Mountains over 3,000ft, leading to
large numbers of Hikers visiting the Highlands
to hike all of these Mountains.
Of the 9 Mountains over 4,000ft in Scotland,
5 are by Loch Morlich, with Ben Macdui
being the second highest Mountain in Scotland
at 4,294ft, 1,309m.
The other 4 over 4,000ft are by Fort
William, including the highest Mountain in
Scotland, Ben Nevis at 4.409ft, 1,345m.
1952 - Reindeer were brought to the area by
Mikel Utsi, with a shop and visitor centre
opening in the 1990s across the road from Loch
Morlich.
1961 - a Ski Resort was opened at the
4,084ft Cairngorm Mountain next to Loch
Morlich. This led to a vast increase in tourism
to the area.
It is unclear what year Loch Morlich
Watersports began operating.
2001 - the Cairngorm Mountain Railway opened
taking Tourists, Skiers, and Snow Boarders up
to a Restaurant and Museum at 1,097 m / 3,599
ft.
2018 - the Cairngorm Mountain Railway was
closed awaiting repairs.
2023 - the Cairngorm Mountain Railway
re-opened but was soon closed again for more
repairs.
2024 Dec - it is hoped the Mountain Railway
will be opened for the Ski Season.
