Buchanan
Street is situated in the centre
of Glasgow, running from south to
north, from Argyle Street, behind where
this image was taken, to Sauchiehall
Street, at the Royal Concert Hall, as
seen in the distance.
Buchanan
Galleries Shopping Centre is next
to the Royal Concert Hall.
Also off Buchanan Street, close to
where this image was taken, is the
trendy Princes
Square Shopping Centre.
The Argyll Arcade
is also off Buchanan Street, just south
of Princes Square, with about 30
Jewellery Shops.
Buchanan Street was laid out in
1777, named after a wealthy Tobacco
Lord, Andrew Buchanan of Buchanan,
Hastie, & Co, as they had a
Townhouse here and acquired planning
permission to develop the area. The
Street is now one of the top shopping
areas in Scotland with a number of
high-end stores.
The Street was re-paved in 1999 with
high quality granite, and at night, is
lit up with blue neon lighting.
On the east side, right in this
image, is the Royal Exchange Square
with the Gallery of
Modern Art, and a number of cafe's
with outdoor seating.
Up at the building with the spire,
on the left, is Nelson Mandela Place,
formerly St George's Place, with a
number of fine victorian buildings,
including the St George's Tron Church.
