Lochearnhead is a small Village at the west
end of Loch Earn, 55 miles north of Glasgow, 14
miles north of Callander, 37 miles west of Perth. The Village
of St
Fillans is 7 miles east at the east end on
the Loch.
The Village is popular for its Hotels,
Clachan Bar Diner, Wakeschool
Watersports, Holiday Cottages, and Hiking the
985m / 3,232ft Ben Vorlich Mountain.
There are also a number of Walks in the
area.

Hotel are next to The Clachan Bar. The
Wakeschool offers Hire and High Speed
Watersports.
On the east side of Lochearnhead are the
Briar Holiday Cottages
with their own Garden at Loch Earn.
Loch Earn Holiday Park
is on the south side of Loch Earn with a range
of Caravans for holidays. The Park has a Jetty
and Pitches for Tourers.
The 985m / 3,232ft Ben Vorlich mountain is on the south
side of Loch Earn, with a Car Park about 3
miles from Lochearnhead, a good fairly safe
Hike.
The 975m / 3,199ft Stuc a Chroin mountain is
just behind Ben Vorlich, a good mountain for
Scrambling. There are also a number of other
top Mountains close by, see the Click on Map.
Ardvorlich House is on the south side of
Loch Earn, you get good views of this House
from the Ben Vorlich Hike. Ardvorlich was built
for the Stuart's in the 1790s.
Edinample Castle is also on the south side
of Loch Earn, you get this view from South Loch
Earn Road, built for the Campbell's in the
1500s.
Lochearnhead Area History:
8,000 BC - soon after the last Ice Age,
people were populating this area, with
Arrowheads found by a local Policeman from that
era.
1100s on - Clans - MacNeish, MacLaren,
MacGregor, Campbell and Stewart gained control
of land in this area.
1488 - Stuart's, relations of the Kings of
Scotland, were awarded land in this area around
Loch Earn, soon building a Castle on the south
side of Loch Earn at Ardvolrich.
1584 - Endinample
Castle was built for Clan Campbell on the
south side of Loch Earn, said to be on land
bought from the Stuart's, this is now a Private
Home.
1620 - 7 Macdonalds from Glencoe were killed
during a raid on Ardvorlich Castle.
1689 - Rob Roy MacGregor from this area
joined the Jacobites in an attempt to
overthrow the King. Rob Roy became one of the
most famous people in Scottish History with
Books and Films about him living as an Outlaw.
His Grave is at Balquidder 7 miles southwest of
Lochearnhead. Rob Roy was related to the
Campbell's and MacDonald's.
1790 - Ardvorlich House was built for the
Stuart's to replace their old Castle, this is
now a Private Home.
1955 - Water Skiing began on Loch Earn with
the Loch still popular for Watersports to this
day.
1993 - an annual Sheep Sheering competion began
at Lochearnhead.
