The Pennnan Area is on the Moray /
Aberdeenshire Coast, 44 miles northwest of
Aberdeen, 11 miles west of Fraserburgh, 84 miles east of
Inverness.
This is the most rugged part of the Coast
between Aberdeen and Inverness, with scenic
little Villages, small secluded Beaches, and a
Nature Reserve.

The image top is of Auchmedden
Church sitting high above Pennan Village,
opened in 1884.
The second image is of Pennan Village, built
from the 1700s as a Fishing Village.
Pennan became famous
in the 1980s as the main location for the Film
named Local Hero,
about an American company trying to take over
the Village so they could build and Oil
Refinery in its place.
The Pennan Inn
offers Rooms and Dining.
Mill of Nethermill is
about 1 mile west of Pennan for Self Catering
Holidays.
Millshore
Pottery is at Nether Mill, and a secluded
Beach with Picnic Area that can be visited.
Just past Mill of Nethermill is the road up
to a Car Park for Cullykhan Beach. A secluded
Sandy Beach, also with Clifftop Walks to an Old
Fort and Hell's Lum Sea Cave.
Troup Head Nature
Reserve is along the Coast, about a 1 mile
drive west from Cullykhan Beach before you turn
on to the minor road to the Reserve. This Minor
Road, about 1 mile up to the Reserve, leads up
through Northfield Farm to a Viewpoint where
you can view Birds nesting on the Cliffs,
mainly Gannets. Walk

Crovie is another
small Village in the area, about 2 miles west,
that has to be seen to be believed, with Houses
only a few feet from the Sea during a High
Tide, so close there is only room for a Walking
Path much of the way along the Village
front.
Royal Tarlair Golf Club, on the east side of
Macduff,
is a great place to get views east along this
Coast. There is also an Open Air Pool by the
Golf Club that may be re-opening soon.
