There is a scenic Riverside Walk from
Glasgow centre out to the Science Centre Tower, then to the
Clydeside Distillery,
then to the Riverside Museum half of a mile
west of the Distillery, then to the Goven
Stones in Govan Church just across the
footbridge or River Ferry from the Riverside
Museum, then there are many inexpensive buses
from Govan 3 miles back to the city centre, a
great day walking.
The Museum opened in the spring of 2011 to
house the Glasgow Museum of Transport. The
Museum is packed full of Buses, Cars,
Motorbikes, Trains, Trams, and large Models of
Famous Ships built here on the River Clyde.
Another popular attraction is a Street
recreated from 1895 - 1930, where you can step
back in time. Here you can also see a ships
Steam Piston Engine, and a Steam Turbine Engine
that is open to show how it works.
The image top right was taken from a large
car park in Govan across the River. There is
the small Govan Passenger
Ferry that runs back and forth for a few
weeks in summer 0800 - 1800, this will be
replaced by a footbridge about October
2024.
The top attraction in Govan is the Govan
Stones in the Govan Old Church. Church

Next to the Riverside Museum of Transport,
is the 245ft long Glenlee Sailing Vessel, built
in 1896, here on the River Clyde.
Known now as the Tall Ship, she is a great
Free attraction that allows you to explore her
Living Quarters, and Engine Room. The lower
decks also have to be seen to be believed, as
they run from almost the bow to the stern, with
little supports to obstuct your view. There is
a Cafe in the lower decks.
The Glenlee was a Bulk Cargo Carrier that
circumnavigated the globe four times, passing
round the dangerous Cape Horn 15 times. She was
bought by the Spanish Navy in 1922 to be
operated as a Sail Training Vessel until being
laid up at Seville in 1981. FREE Admission.
